Bamboo Curtains Capture Outdoor Beauty
With growing popularity, bamboo curtains are inexpensive and they bring outside nature to indoor decorating adding an exotic flare. Most bamboo curtains are light filtering but they can be made to blackout light. Changes in how they are woven will alter the light filtration.
Traditionally a Japanese craft, bamboo curtains are made by weaving thin bamboo shafts together. These natural curtains are typically raised and lowered like a blind. When rasing bamboo curtains they form a “roman-style” accordion of pleats.
Bamboo curtains are also made with bamboo beads tightly strung together by wire or string hanging down vertically in thin strands. Hand painted designs can be put on the curtains. Most of the designs painted on beaded bamboo curtains resemble Asian or Hawaiian art or have a tropical theme.
Commonly hung in a door threshold, beaded bamboo curtains are referred to as the “island alternative to a door.” Less traditional bamboo curtains are made using longer, wider slats of bamboo and may be woven horizontally or vertically.
