Simple, Traditional Café Curtains

For an informal solution to covering a window, try café curtains. Café curtains cover a window for privacy, and, depending on your preference, they can also give vibes of openness. These curtains are extremely popular for kitchens.

To create the best looking café curtains, place the rod one-half, one-third, or two-thirds of the way down the window. The bottom part of café curtains usually has a scallop top attached to the curtain rod. Transverse and spring rods are often used. When hanging the curtain, think about whether or not it will be drawn back often.  If it will be, try tying the café curtain to rings to make pulling them back easier.

You must decide if you want the heading of a café curtain to overlap the bottom covering or stop short of it. Common methods of hanging the heading are to use rod pockets or a scalloped heading.

Café curtains should be kept informal or they will look out of place. Use light cotton fabrics with simple patterns. To let more light through café curtains, use lace or other net fabrics.
