Learn How to Make Curtains in any Style

There are multiple “how to make curtains” resources online.  Any desired style can be found and detailed descriptions are provided.  Being able to choose any fabric and pattern you want is a bonus to making your own curtains. The following is a how to on making a simple curtain.

An important part of how to make curtains is to remember to measure the window and the material with great accuracy using a yard stick or ruler, not a tape measure.  Once correct measurements have been made, spread the material across a large table and cut.  Cut double the width because curtains are bunched at the top.  When cutting the length you will need to add about 10 inches to compensate for making the sleeve.

After the cuttings are done the sleeve can be made. The size of a sleeve will depend on the width of the curtain rod. Determine the length then fold and sew down the material to fit properly. If extra length is still hanging them up the material at the bottom to your desired length.

A scarf for the window can also be made easily.  Just measure up one side of the window, across the top and down the other side to find the right length of material to purchase.  Sew all sides of the scarf to secure them from fraying. After the curtains are hung, drape the scarf and pull it down to get the look you want.
