Get Soft Elegance with Sheer Curtains
Sheer curtains are a soft window covering that provides privacy and lets light in while blocking direct sunlight. They also provide a barrier for dust when you have an open window. Several styles of hanging sheer curtains are created by layering them with other transparent curtains or blinds. Decorators suggest choosing a crease resistant sheer fabric to make washing them easier.
Cotton or synthetic fabrics are used most often for sheer curtains. Some sheer curtains have floral patterns or lace borders, but most are solid colors. White, off-white, and cream are the most common colors, but many synthetic fabrics have a variety of other colors.
If you are making your own sheer curtains, you will want to double the width of the curtain wire or rod when measuring for sheer curtain fabric. This allows for bunching at the top. To make sheer curtains that provide more privacy, use more that double the width for fabric. The extra fabric can be used to add extra drapes and bunching. Sheer curtains are often paired with a matching sheer scarf draped across the top of the window. Elegant and petite decorative hardware is used to hang sheer curtains, accenting the soft look.
